The anticipation about this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, especially after host Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a strange statue. The question has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is working on a fresh Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This phrasing implies that the team might be designing a real-time experience rather than another turn-based title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it kicked off the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, player agency, and complex character building—traits that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities you can achieve if you're playing as a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously flexible, letting players to experiment both in story and combat. Most missions can be approached in multiple ways, sometimes in surprising fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a clever way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, players can anticipate another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
